Heathers the Musical

Heathers the Musical

For this show I had the opportunity to costume 20 very talented actors in the Heathers the Musical! This is my first show as lead costumer and it was a big undertaking but I have had a blast working with these amazing people.

I started off making the skirts for two of the Heathers and Veronica from scratch. McNamara's (yellow) skirt was a pair of shorts that were purchased and altered to be a skirt. All of the Jackets were purchased and altered to fit the ladies wearing them. Chandler's (red) was actually bought at a thrift shop and fit perfectly by some miracle, her white shirt was cropped to make the skirt less full around the stomach. Duke's (green) was shortened and taken in around the darts to fit her waist better. McNamara's (yellow) was bought as a white jacket and was dyed yellow and taken in the back to better fit her waist. Veronica (blue) was bought over-sized where I put darts in the back, cut a majority of the front off to create a collared look, and added polka dot fabric to nod to the Broadway costume.

The rest of the cast (named and unnamed) helped put together there outfit based on the characters they had built for them selves. Kurt and Ram's jackets were bought, I added the appliqued "W" for their school (Westerburg), there is also a scene were the boys take off all their clothes and one fo the guys thought it would be cool to be a tearaway shirt so of course I had to make that happen for them. For the other cast members I also altered pants (taken in the side of the legs and hemmed), fitted skirts, moved buttons, added buttons, removed buttons, and added "W" to cheerleading uniforms.

In total there were 3 skirts made, 4 Jackets fitted/altered, 1 pair of pants altered, 2 shirts made to tear away, 1 shirt altered to be torn open (without losing any buttons), 1 shirt altered, and "W"s added to 2 jackets and 2 cheer tops.

Although I am not mentioned, Broadway World did a review of the show and all of the amazing cast members.

To see some photos of the processes I used and went through please enjoy the Making of Heathers.

I have also added some photos from a promotional event that the cast did as well as photos from backstage. These photos were all taken by myself and are meant to be fun and silly, please enjoy Heathers Backstage.
