Cinderella

@ Riverdale High School 2020

Cinderella

I moved to Florida this year with the intentions of getting a job with a local theatre to keep my skills up and continuing to improve my portfolio. Well it's been a year and I have done ZERO shows, that is until I get a note from Mrs. Smith of Riverdale High School and the Arts Center if Cannon County. Riverdale is doing Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella and they want me to make the transforming dresses! Of course this is a bit of a shock to me as they know I live in Florida and wont be home that often. But they want me to do it any ways, so I say yes.
The end goal was Cinderella's rags, an exact copy of the rags that transforms into the White Dress (ball gown), fairy godmothers gown, and "Marie"'s cloak. In the end, I did end up getting everything done even with the fact that I never actually met the actresses that would be wearing these dresses. The director had given me artistic liberty so I went to town.
Even though the skirt called for a white gown I really wanted to include blue into to as everyone knows Cinderella's ball gown as blue. So I started with blue in the skirt with the bodice being white and SPARKLY. I was home for about three days to do first and last fittings on all costumes. The first thing the director said was "too blue"... Which was very disheartening as i had spent the last month working on the skirt alone. I remade the skirt. In one day. It wasn't nearly as pretty as the first one but I did it!
The show was supposed to open the second week in March, but alas, COVID-19 has taken over our lives and the show has been postponed until further notice. I have no pictures of the costumes except from my living room and form the fittings but i will be adding them as soon as we are released from our quarantine. *UPDATE* the show never happened thanks to COVID and both actresses have moved away from school so I will not be getting pictures of the costumes any time soon but I will be looking for some models to stand in so I can get at least a couple pictures of the dresses in all their glory.
