Beauty and the Beast

My sibling are in the theatre program at my Alma Mater, so when their teacher said that they were doing Beauty and the Beast I knew that they would be renting a bunch of costumes. I ran over and offered to make the main dresses that would be their main costuming cost, this would end up both save them money on renting costumes while also giving me some experience in working with new materials and some real world theatre practice. I ended up making 3 of belle's dresses, 1 of her capes, and 2 different sizes of the same cape for the Enchantress. Each of the Belle dresses were worn by two different girls during the course of the show. All of the dresses were made by draping and free hand cutting. The white shirt worn under the blue dress was edited from a mens shirt pattern that I had used in the past.

I purchased a corset and crinoline cage for the yellow dress and then covered them with the dress. This was my first experience working with both a corset and a crinoline cage, overall it went well and held together well for the most part. The pictures shown are taken after the show so both held up well enough to be used again but some of the hooks and eyes had to be replaced as they were ripped out after so many quick changes.

To see some photos of the processes I used and went through, please enjoy the Making of Beauty and the Beast.
